
Justin Allen, DO is a provider at Essential Health – Cary. Dr. Allen is double board certified in Internal Medicine and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine and previously served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the division of hospital medicine at Duke Raleigh Hospital, overseeing overnight admissions and cross cover. He also served as an attending physician at Duke University Hospital’s Duke Center for Hyperbaric Medicine and Environmental Physiology, where he supervised both inpatient and outpatient hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatments, performed commercial and recreational diving evaluations, and provided 24/7 call for emergent hyperbaric cases throughout North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina. Dr. Allen has extensive experience supervising and evaluating physical fitness markers including VO2 max, pulmonary function, and respiratory metabolism to help patients reach elite physical performance. He has additional interests in performance nutrition, sleep optimization, and nutraceuticals to help patients live longer and feel better.
Dr. Allen received his doctorate in osteopathic medicine at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, completed internal medicine residency at Lakeland Health in Saint Joseph, Michigan, and completed a fellowship in Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine at Duke University Hospital.
Dr. Allen values compassion and respect in patient care and strives to become your partner in health. At Essential Health – Cary, his goal will be to educate and empower his patients to take their health and wellness into their own hands and give them the tools to succeed.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Allen is a lifelong endurance athlete; originally a runner at the collegiate level, he and his wife, Kaitlyn, have found success at long-distance triathlon, both competing at the 2024 Half-Ironman World Championships and achieving USA Triathlon All- American status. They live in Cary with their daughter and love spending time at the beach, traveling, and enjoying cuisine throughout the triangle.
